How the appliance recall checker works
The appliance recall checker searches 37 CPSC recall notices announced from Jan. 1, 2016 through Oct. 5, 2026 for household refrigerators, freezers, ranges, ovens, cooktops, dishwashers, clothes washers and dryers. It matches the brand, the product name and the model numbers CPSC lists in each notice, so typing the model from your appliance’s rating plate gives the most precise answer.
- A match is a lead, not a verdict. Many notices cover only certain serial-number ranges or build dates. Compare your full model and serial number with the official notice before you act.
- No match is not a guarantee. This tool covers major appliances only. Check CPSC’s latest recalls and the manufacturer for anything newer or outside this list.
- Microwaves, mini fridges and countertop ice makers are not included, and neither are commercial units or small kitchen appliances.
Where to find your appliance model number
Your appliance’s model number is printed on a rating plate or label, and recall notices usually say where to look. The LG range recall, for example, points to a label inside the oven door or the storage drawer. Refrigerator labels are often on an inside wall of the fresh-food section; dishwasher labels on the door edge or tub frame; washer and dryer labels around the door opening or under the lid. Your owner’s manual shows the exact spot.
What to do if your appliance is recalled
A recalled appliance gets the remedy the recalling company offers through CPSC — usually a free repair, a replacement part, a refund or a safety kit such as knob covers. Follow the notice’s instructions first: several tell owners to unplug the appliance or stop using it until it is fixed.
- Contact the recalling company using the details in the notice. Recall remedies are free; do not pay for a recall repair.
- If the company does not respond, CPSC offers a recall complaint form.
- Register new appliances with the manufacturer so recall notices reach you directly.
Appliance Repair Desk connects owners with paid, out-of-warranty repair for major appliances. We do not perform recall remedies or warranty work — those come from the recalling company.
