Which appliance brands are recalled most?
Electrolux, the company behind Frigidaire and some Kenmore appliances, issued the most major-appliance recall notices since 2016: 8, including one 2024 re-announcement of a 2009 range recall. GE Appliances and Haier, its parent, follow with 5. Samsung issued only 3 notices, but they covered 4,584,405 U.S. units — 61% of everything recalled in this period — led by 2.8 million top-load washers in 2016.

Ranked by number of notices, then units. GE Appliances is a Haier company, as CPSC’s own notices state, so the two are combined. ZLINE’s four notices include two that expanded its 2022 gas-range recall; expansion notices add only their new units.
Recalls by year
Major-appliance recall notices have clustered since 2022, which alone produced 8 notices; 2020 had none. 2026 already has 5 notices through early October, four of them ranges.
Which appliances get recalled
Ranges, ovens and cooktops account for 22 of the 37 notices, more than every other major appliance combined. Washers and dryers had fewer notices but the most units, because of Samsung’s two top-load washer recalls.
| Appliance | Notices | U.S. units |
|---|---|---|
| Range, oven or cooktop | 22 | 2,073,415 |
| Refrigerator | 7 | 1,220,520 |
| Washer or dryer | 4 | 3,699,100 |
| Dishwasher | 3 | 476,600 |
| Freezer | 1 | 90 |
Why appliances are recalled
Fire is the hazard named in 19 of the 37 notice titles — overheating washers, ranges that switch on by accident, refrigerators with failing electrical parts. Two notices report a death: a plumber electrocuted by an energized range in 2016 (Blomberg and Summit ranges, recalled by Arçelik in 2017) and a fatal fire involving a Galanz retro refrigerator reported in 2026.
| Hazard named in the notice title | Notices |
|---|---|
| Fire | 19 |
| Burn | 9 |
| Impact or fall injury | 5 |
| Carbon monoxide | 3 |
| Electric shock / electrocution | 2 |
| Choking or laceration | 2 |
| Gas leak | 2 |
| Tip-over | 2 |
A notice can name more than one hazard, so the counts add up to more than 37.

How we counted
We downloaded every CPSC recall record dated Jan. 1, 2016 or later from CPSC’s Recalls Retrieval Web Service on Oct. 5, 2026 (3,428 notices across all products) and kept the 37 that cover household refrigerators, freezers, ranges, wall ovens, cooktops, dishwashers, clothes washers and dryers. We excluded microwaves, mini fridges, countertop ice makers, commercial units, small appliances and look-alike products such as pressure washers and hair dryers. Units are the U.S. units stated in each notice; Canadian units are excluded. Expansion notices add only their new units, and Electrolux’s 2024 re-announcement of a 2009 recall is listed but not added to unit totals. Where an API field conflicted with the published notice (one case: the incidents text for LG notice 25-126), we used the published notice.
